Losing the Daily Table was devastating for Cambridge.

A city-owned grocery store for Cambridge

Between the skyrocketing cost of groceries, federal cuts to food assistance, and the loss of the Daily Table, Cambridge faces a food insecurity crisis.

But we can fill the void that the Daily Table left behind, with a city-owned grocery store in Central Square. It’s not a crazy idea: similar proposals are getting traction in New York City, and even over the river in Boston.

The Daily Table covered most of its expenses with grocery sales. With just a little help from the city, we can provide a guaranteed low cost source of food for our community — and give the big grocery chains a little healthy competition.
